Selangor saw off Imigresen 4-1 in the FA Cup quarter-finals at home on Friday evening, booking their place in the last four with a performance that showed no real pressure from the hosts. The visitors took control within the opening twenty minutes and never looked back, ending a barren spell against the Malaysian side that had been puzzling their supporters.
M. Atede opened the scoring in the eighteenth minute, and Selangor added a second just three minutes later when the home defence was caught in possession. Vitor Pernambuco extended the lead before half-time with a well-taken goal in the forty-third minute, putting the hosts on the back foot for the remainder of the contest.
Chrigor Moraes made it 4-0 in the sixty-first minute with a clinical finish, and though Imigresen turned to the kids in search of a response, they were left exposed by Selangor's defensive solidity. Moraes added a second of his own in the eighty-seventh minute to confirm the victory, and saw it out despite picking up a yellow card of his own in the eighty-eighth minute.
Imigresen made five changes during the second half, bringing on S. Bashah, T. Saravanan, N. Leddel, F. Halim and E. Sosa in a bid to find something from the match. The substitutions were largely reactive, and by then the game was already beyond their reach.
Selangor's recent form suggests this was no fluke — they had won three of their last five matches and drawn two, including a 3-0 victory over Kuala Lumpur City on Tuesday. Imigresen, meanwhile, were on the brink of a move after a mixed run that included a heavy 7-0 defeat to Johor DT and two draws against Kedah.
The result means Selangor advance to the semi-finals with momentum on their side, while Imigresen will need to regroup quickly if they are to avoid another slip this season.
