Dimitrios Limnios

The moment people remember from Dimitrios Limnios's career at Panathinaikos came in the 129th minute of a Greek Cup semi-final against PAOK, when he struck a volley to force a penalty shootout. It capped a run that had already taken him back to the club as a free agent in January 2024, after a serious injury had interrupted a career that started remarkably early: Limnios made his professional debut for Atromitos in October 2014 at the age of 16, becoming the third-youngest player in the history of Super League Greece.

He built on that debut with 48 appearances for Atromitos before PAOK paid €900,000 plus a sell-on clause for him in 2017. There he won the Greek Cup and, the following season, the Super League Greece title, scoring 10 goals in 112 appearances. A €3.3 million move to 1. FC Köln in 2020 proved harder going, with injuries limiting him to 14 Bundesliga appearances without a goal. A loan to FC Twente changed that picture: he scored eight times in 36 games in the Eredivisie and was named to the competition's team of the month in May 2022, only for a ligament rupture suffered on international duty against Cyprus the following month to keep him out for eight and a half months.

For Greece, Limnios has earned 26 caps and scored three goals, including a qualifying winner against Armenia and a Nations League opener against Kosovo. He now plays on loan at Fortuna Sittard, on loan from Panathinaikos.
