Dimitar Mitov

In May 2025, the goalkeeper stood between the posts at Hampden Park as his side faced Celtic in the Scottish Cup final.

Mitov arrived in Scotland with a reputation built in England’s lower leagues. He spent six seasons at Cambridge United, where he became a regular starter and made 146 league appearances. His consistency there earned him recognition, including the Player of the Season award for 2021-22. He arrived at St Johnstone in 2023 and quickly won over the supporters, claiming both the Players’ Player of the Year and Jailer Tours’ Player of the Year honours in his debut season.

The tall shot-stopper did not stay put for long. Aberdeen secured his services in 2024, and his presence proved vital during their trophy-winning campaign. The 193 cm man has since attracted attention further afield. By August 2026, he had moved to FC St. Pauli in the Bundesliga, replacing Nikola Vasilj in the starting lineup. The transfer fee was reported as €400,000.

On the international stage, Mitov has established himself as a reliable figure for Bulgaria. He made his senior debut in September 2023 against Iran. Although he has not scored for his country, he has kept several clean sheets, including a notable 1-0 victory over Tanzania in March 2024. He was first called up by head coach Mladen Krstajić in August 2023 and has since earned 15 caps.
