About the player
Gilles van der Wal has never played for another club. He joined PEC Zwolle's academy at Under-10 level, arriving from VV Hierden, and has played for the club since. He captained the PEC Zwolle Under-17 side during the 2024/25 season before moving up to the Under-19 team the following year.
In December 2025 the midfielder was called up to the senior squad for the first time, taking a place on the bench for Eredivisie fixtures against AZ Alkmaar, PSV and Ajax, though he was not brought on in any of them. He signed a professional contract running for three years with a club option to extend it by a fourth.
