About the player
Hugo Pérez Balderas came through the academies of Espanyol and Deportivo Alavés before Villarreal took him on in 2022, first into the Tercera Federación side and, from July 2023, into Villarreal B, where he made his senior debut in the Segunda División. He spent two seasons with the B team before returning to Espanyol in June 2025 on a free transfer, signing a three-year deal with the Catalan club.
That homecoming came with little playing time attached. Espanyol sent him straight out on loan to SD Huesca in the Segunda División, but game time there proved scarce, and the loan was cut short in January 2026. He moved on to Gimnàstic de Tarragona in the Primera Federación for the rest of the season, a second loan inside the same campaign.
In July 2026, Pérez left Spain altogether, joining S.C. União Torreense in the Liga Portugal 2 on a permanent, free transfer, putting pen to a contract running until 2029. Espanyol kept a sell-on percentage and a share of any future transfer fee. A central defender comfortable on his right foot, he now wears the number 28 shirt at Torreense.
