About the player
Joel Matondo was born in Kinshasa. He came through the Stade Rennais youth system, appearing for the club's under-19 and reserve sides before a move to SM Caen, where he settled into the reserve team and finding the net seven times in 41 matches over two seasons.
He spent the opening months with the reserve side, Guingamp B, before being handed his senior debut for the first team in December.
Matondo qualifies to represent both France and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, though he has yet to feature for either at any level. For now, his story is still being written at reserve-team level and in his first senior appearances.
