Luke Paul Hoare Shaw

Luke Shaw joined Southampton's academy in 2003, aged eight, after Chelsea turned him away, and worked his way up through Hersham and Moulsey Juniors before that move. He made his senior debut in an FA Cup tie against Millwall in January 2012 and signed his first professional contract that May, going on to make 60 appearances for the south-coast club before his transfer to Manchester United.

The move to Old Trafford has defined his career since. He extended his contract there in April 2023 to keep him at the club until 2027, and has collected an FA Cup, two EFL Cups, a Europa League and a Community Shield along the way. Individually, he was named in the PFA Team of the Year in 2013–14 while still at Southampton and again in 2020–21 at United, and has twice won United's Players' Player of the Year award, in 2018–19 and 2020–21, alongside the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year prize in 2018–19.

His time at United was nearly derailed in September 2015, when a Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven ended with a double fracture of his left tibia and fibula. Two operations followed, and he missed the rest of that season before returning in January 2016. He has since dealt with further setbacks, including a hamstring injury in April 2021 and an ankle problem that delayed the start of his 2022–23 campaign.

For England, Shaw made his debut in a friendly against Denmark in March 2014 and has since been picked for four major tournaments, including the World Cups in 2014 and 2022 and the European Championships of 2020 and 2024, both of which ended in the final for England.
