About the player
Mario Lucas Simuț was born in Oradea, Romania, and plays international football for Hungary. He holds both Romanian and Hungarian nationality. He has won two caps for the Hungary Under-21 team and was part of the squads for qualifying for the UEFA European Under-19 Championship.
His professional career began in Hungary. He joined Szombathelyi Haladás in January 2022 and stayed with the club until 2024, a period that covered the 2023/24 season.
The next step came in January 2024, when he moved to Videoton FC, also known as MOL Fehérvár. The move was a free transfer, so the club paid no fee. Videoton were his club through 2025.
His route to the Hungary youth teams is a little unusual. He was born across the border, holds two passports, and came through the Hungarian national age-group system. Through those age groups he has moved from the Under-19 qualifying squads to the Under-21 side.
