About the player
Renato Veiga came up through Sporting CP's academy before making his senior football away from Lisbon. After two seasons with Sporting's B side, he was loaned to FC Augsburg in January 2023, then returned to Sporting that August before immediately being sold to FC Basel for €4.6 million. Within a year Chelsea paid €14 million to bring him to England.
His spell at Chelsea was short. In January 2025 he was loaned to Juventus until the end of the season, a deal worth €3.8 million plus expenses with no obligation or option to buy. That August, Villarreal made the move permanent in a different direction, paying a club-record fee of €24.5 million fixed, with up to €5 million in variables, and tying him to a contract running until 2032.
At international level, Veiga made his debut for Portugal on 13 October 2024 against Poland. He had to wait over a year for his first goal, which came on 16 November 2025 in a 9–1 World Cup qualification win over Armenia.
