About the player
Rafael Vieira's career has moved through a long list of Portuguese clubs since he left Vitória de Guimarães's youth system, and only later did it take him abroad. A centre-back by trade, he spent his formative years at Guimarães before loan spells at AD Lousada and Ribeirão 1968 sent him into senior football, and he stayed with Ribeirão for two seasons before moving on. From there the path ran through GD Bragança, Vilaverdense, SC Covilhã, SC Farense and Académica de Coimbra, each stop lasting roughly a season or two.
A move to Nacional da Madeira in 2021 marked a step up, and two years later he left Portugal altogether for Saudi club Al-Bukayriyah on a free transfer. The spell in Saudi Arabia was brief; he returned home to sign for Leixões, where he stayed for two seasons before agreeing a free transfer to Paços de Ferreira in August 2025. The deal was struck on a one-year contract with an option for a further extension.
He has not been capped at senior international level for Portugal.
