Simon Murray

Simon Murray is a forward who has established himself as a reliable scorer in Scotland’s top flight since returning to Dundee in 2024. His career path has been defined by a steady accumulation of goals across multiple divisions rather than a single defining moment.

Murray began his journey in the Scottish junior leagues, building a reputation that eventually led him to Arbroath in 2014. His output there caught the eye of Dundee United, who signed him for £50,000 in January 2015. While his time at Tannadice included winning the Scottish Challenge Cup in 2016–17, it was his move to South Africa to join Bidvest Wits in 2018 that marked a significant shift in his trajectory. He left Hibernian for the South African side after a loan spell at Dundee had already showcased his potential.

Returning to Scotland in 2020, Murray found stability at Queen’s Park. He played a central role in their ascent, winning the Scottish League Two title in 2020–21 and securing promotion via the League One play-offs the following season. His form was notable enough to earn him the Scottish League One Player of the Month award in August 2021. This consistency led to a move to Ross County in January 2023, where he made 51 appearances and scored 16 goals.

His return to Dundee has been marked by immediate impact. As of August 2026, he has made 72 league appearances for the club, scoring 23 goals. His performances during the 2024–25 season were particularly significant, earning him both the Andrew De Vries Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year awards at the club. These individual accolades were accompanied by nominations for the PFA Scotland Players' Player of the Year and the SFWA Footballer of the Year. Despite his consistent club form, Murray has not yet earned a senior cap for the Scotland national team, though he has publicly expressed his desire for a call-up.
