About the player
Younes Jabr al-Maftahi spent eight years working his way through the Sparta Rotterdam academy. He joined as a boy in 2016, moved up through the youth ranks and then into Jong Sparta Rotterdam, the reserve side that serves as the last step before the first team.
The reward came in 2024, when he signed his first professional contract. Sparta clearly rated what they saw: in January 2025 they tore up that deal and handed him a new one running to the middle of 2030. That debut arrived in December 2025.
His stay in the first-team picture at Sparta was brief. On transfer deadline day in January 2026, he was loaned out to FC Volendam for the rest of the 2025-26 season, with no option to buy attached. The switch means his football for the remainder of the campaign will be played away from the club that developed him from the age of eight.
