Žan Bešir

Žan Bešir is a midfielder for Dundee FC. He arrived in Scotland after a period of development in Slovenia, securing a free transfer from ND Primorje in July 2026. The move followed a pre-season trip to Hungary with the Scottish club, where he signed a two-year contract with an option for an additional year.

Bešir began his career at FC Koper, progressing through their youth academy. He made his senior debut for Koper in the Slovenian Second League before the club secured promotion to the PrvaLiga. Between 2021 and 2023, he was loaned to several Slovenian clubs to gain experience: Jadran Dekani, ND Gorica, and NK Tabor Sežana. These spells allowed him to adapt to senior football before returning to Koper, where he contributed to winning the Slovenian Football Cup in 2021–22.

In July 2023, Bešir joined ND Primorje on a free transfer. During his time there, he was loaned to NK Nafta 1903 in January 2024. He made a significant impact at Primorje, earning the PrvaLiga Player of the Month award in November 2024. This recognition highlighted his form before his move north.

Bešir represents Slovenia at the Under-21 level. He made his U21 debut on 12 November 2021, coming on as a substitute in a 2023 UEFA Euro qualifier against Albania U21, which Slovenia won 3–0. He stands 187 cm tall and is left-footed, wearing the number 17 shirt for Dundee.

The transition to the Scottish Premiership marked a new chapter for the Slovenian international. Having established himself in domestic competitions, he is now competing in a more physically demanding league. His journey from the Slovenian Second League to the top flight of Scottish football underscores his steady progression. Analysts note that his height and technical ability on his left foot make him a versatile asset in midfield.
