Afc '34

The one piece of silverware on record at AFC '34 came in the KNVB District Cup for the West I region, won in 1997, and it stands out precisely because the club has competed in the Hoofdklasse and Eerste Klasse without adding a league title to go alongside it.

Cup football has otherwise been the club's stage for punching above its weight. Group-stage appearances in the KNVB Beker across the late 1990s and 2000s put AFC '34 in the same draw as professional sides such as AZ Alkmaar, FC Volendam, HFC Haarlem and Telstar. That pattern has continued into the current era, with a run in the 2026/27 Beker that included a 4-1 win over VV Scherpenzeel before a meeting with Excelsior '31.

The club takes its name from the year it was formed, 1934, and has stayed rooted in Alkmaar ever since, playing in blue and yellow. Its academy has sent players further than the club itself has gone: Phillip Cocu came through the youth ranks before a career that took him to the Dutch national team and into management, and Bosnia international Haris Medunjanin also started there. Locally, matches against Kolping Boys carry the closest thing AFC '34 has to a genuine derby.

What the club has never done is turn any of that into a second trophy. Nearly three decades on, the 1997 district cup remains the only line in its honours list.
