Brechin

Glebe Park sits with a hedge running down one side of the pitch, a detail that has followed Brechin City since 1919. The club moved there that year and has stayed, of which 1,519 have seats.

Brechin City itself came together in 1906, when two junior sides from the town, Brechin Harp and Brechin Hearts, merged into one club. League life proved unsettled at first: admitted to the Scottish Football League in 1923, out again by 1926, back in 1929, and only holding full membership from 1953–54 onward.

The club has won the third tier of Scottish football four times, twice by a single point — Meadowbank Thistle in 1982–83, Kilmarnock in 1989–90 — and reached the Scottish Challenge Cup final in 2002, losing 0–2 to Queen of the South. The other side of that ledger came in 2017–18, when Brechin failed to win a single league match all season, the first senior Scottish side in 126 years to manage it. A playoff defeat to Kelty Hearts in 2021 sent them down into the Highland League for the first time in 67 years; they came back up in 2022–23, taking the Highland League title on the final day with a 2–0 win over Buckie Thistle. Matches against Arbroath, Forfar Athletic and Montrose, the other Angus clubs, are known locally as the Angus Derby.
