BSC Süd 05

Brandenburg an der Havel has two football clubs that share one city. On one side is FC Stahl Brandenburg, the works team of the steelworks. On the other is Süd 05.

The club's roots run back to Brandenburger BC, formed in May 1905 and merged that October into Brandenburger BC 05. Its first colours were blue, green and white, taken from the city itself. Red and white came later. The East German years brought another name, BSG Motor Süd, and it was under that name that the club won the Brandenburg title in 1952.

Before that, from 1937/38 to 1941/42, it played five seasons in the Gauliga Berlin-Brandenburg, the region's top division at the time.

Süd 05 has always been strong with children. Between 1920 and 1930 its Schüler side won the championship nine times running. In 1965 the club's pupils became East German champions.

The senior side has come close to silverware more recently. It won the Brandenburg state title in 1999 and lost the state cup final twice, in 2003 and 2010. It now plays in the Brandenburg-Liga, the sixth tier. In 2021 Solomon Okoronkwo, a Nigerian international and 2008 Olympic silver medallist, played for the club.

Home is the Werner-Seelenbinder-Sportplatz on Brielower Straße. It holds 5,000, with 500 seats under a covered stand, and the club marked its 120th anniversary there in 2025.
