Cheshunt

Champions of the Spartan League only once, in 1962–63, before that step up came. The double over the Isthmian League Division Two in 2002–03 sits closer to living memory.

The name goes back further than the club does. An earlier Cheshunt side had played since around 1880 before folding in 1931, driven out by debt and by rent the Cheshunt Cricket Club kept raising. When local businessmen rebuilt the club in July 1946, they did not start from nothing: they took the junior side Crossbrook Sports as their base and kept its amber and black, colours the club still wears as the Ambers.

Theobalds Lane became home in 1949 and has been rebuilt in stages ever since, most recently with new stands in 2023. None of that has translated into deep cup runs against bigger opposition: the Fourth Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, reached five times, remains the club's ceiling there, while the FA Trophy run stretched one round further, to the fifth, in 2021–22. Locally the fixtures that matter are against Hemel Hempstead Town, Hitchin Town and Ware, games still billed as the Hertfordshire derby.

No academy product has gone on to the Football League, so the club's name travels less through its own graduates than through the ground itself and the seasons that filled its trophy room, from the Athenian League Cup doubles of the mid-1970s.
