Coventry United

Coventry United reached the top of the Midland Football League on three separate occasions, working their way up from Division Two, won in 2014–15, through Division One a year later, before topping the Premier Division in 2019–20. The Division Two campaign also brought the League's Presidents Cup.

The club exists because of a decision made somewhere else. In 2013, when Coventry City announced it would play its home games at Sixfields Stadium in Northampton while the Ricoh Arena was redeveloped, four local businessmen, Jason Kay, Jason Timms, Marcus Green and Pete Schofield, took over the existing Coventry Spartans and turned it into a club that would stay in the city.

Ownership has moved through several hands since: Joe Haggarty bought the club in 2020 and resigned two years later, Nigel Ward held it briefly, then Michael Kavanagh took the chair, before Raymond Nowack and Hamad Al Salem became majority shareholders in 2024. A women's side ran alongside the men's team from 2015 until 2023, when relegation from the FA Women's Championship led to it being rebranded as Rugby Borough.

On the pitch, the closest thing the club has to an old grudge is Coventry Sphinx, the derby that gives the fixture list its edge each season; Rugby Town, now Rugby Borough, supplies the other local rivalry.

Home games are played at the Nick Newbold Stadium, a rugby ground still known to many as Butts Park Arena, which the club moved into in 2017 after starting out sharing the Alan Higgs Centre and Sphinx Drive. It holds around 4,000, roughly 3,000 of them seated, in a corner of Coventry that had nothing to do with football before 2013.
