Flint

Flint sit in the 3. divisjon, the fourth tier of Norwegian football. The east Tønsberg side share the town with FK Eik Tønsberg, and when the two meet the match is called "Slaget om Tønsberg", the Battle for Tønsberg. Runar and Sandefjord Fotball are the other neighbours they measure themselves against.

The 2025 NM Cup gave them a result well above their division. Drawn against Eliteserien side Odd in the first round, Flint won 3-2. It came from a team that has never won a national league or cup title.

Their own success has come lower down. They won the 4. divisjon in 2017 and again in 2018. The handball section has gone further than the football side. It won the 1. divisjon in 2009/2010 and then played in the top-tier league, the REMA 1000-ligaen.

The name explains the club's roots. IL Flint began in 1917 as Vallø Idrettsforening in Søndre Slagen. The local paper mill, Vallø Papirfabrikk, sold its paper under the brand Flint, and the club took the name with the motto "Harde som flint", hard as flint. Today it is a multi-sport association of some 1,500 to 2,000 members, playing at the Flint Esso Arena in white shirts and black shorts, or in red shirts for away games.

John Arne Riise, the former Norway international, played for the club and coached it around 2021.
