«De Lacskûn»
The club did not start out chasing goals at all: Baron Pieter Albert Vincent van Harinxma thoe Slooten founded it as a cricket club on 25 April 1883, and football only entered the picture in 1894. The current name, LAC Frisia 1883, dates from 1921.
The club's best football came early. Between 1904 and 1925 it took the Northern District championship five times, and that last title, in 1925, carried it into the national championship round, where it finished bottom. Since then the honours have come from further down the pyramid, with Second, Third and Fourth Class district titles collected in scattered years through to 2024 and 2025.
Leeuwarden has more than one club, and Frisia is not the city's professional side; that role belongs to SC Cambuur. Frisia's rivalry runs instead against CVV Blauw Wit '34, in what is known locally as the Leeuwarder derby. The club's youth setup has sent players further than its own league placing might suggest.
Frisia still plays under the ochre yellow and navy blue it has worn for generations, known to its own supporters as De Lacskûn.
