Hong Kong U23

Jørn Andersen took charge in December 2021 with an Asian Games campaign to prepare, and by the time the tournament kicked off in 2023 he had shaped a Hong Kong under-23 side that beat Iran 1-0 in the quarter-finals before falling in the semi-final, finishing fourth.

The side does not carry a founding date in the usual sense: it exists because the International Olympic Committee moved Olympic football to an under-23 format in 1992, and the Football Association of Hong Kong, China needed a squad built for that qualification cycle rather than for a league or a cup. It first competed as a separate under-23 entity at the 2002 Asian Games.

Its clearest title came earlier than the Asian Games run: gold at the 2009 East Asian Games, sealed with a penalty shoot-out win over Japan after a 1-1 draw, with Chan Siu Ki among the scorers on the day. Between that and the 2022 Asian Games campaign, major honours have stayed out of reach.

Home games have been split between Hong Kong Stadium and Mong Kok Stadium, with Kai Tak Stadium added to the rotation after the wider Kai Tak Sports Park opened in 2025. The team is known as the Dragons, or by the Cantonese nickname that translates as the Strength, and its sharpest rivalry runs against Macau under-23 in the Hong Kong–Macau Interport Cup.

What the side has not managed is a continental age-group title on the level of the AFC U-23 Asian Cup.
