Hořovicko

Matěj Hybš came through the youth ranks here before moving on to Sparta Prague and Viktoria Plzeň, one of several academy graduates — Patrik Brandner among them, now at Slovan Liberec — who left Hořovice for Czech football's top flight without the club itself ever following them there. That gap, between what the town produces and where it plays, runs through most of the club's history.

SK Hořovice formed in 1919 out of a merger of local sports circles, and the name has come and gone since: Sokol, Spartak, and in 2008 a merger with FC Bzová that produced FK Hořovicko, a name the club carried until reverting to SK Hořovice in 2020. Through the DSO and TJ years of the 1950s to the 1980s it stayed a regional side, and its best domestic finish reflects that level — the Středočeský krajský přebor title in 1981/82, one tier below the professional pyramid. A later promotion in 2016, taking the Divize A, briefly pushed it higher again.

The fixture that still matters locally is the derby against Český lev-Union Beroun, the Berounsko-Hořovicko derby, a contest defined less by table position than by the twelve kilometres between the two towns.

Home games are played at the Městský stadion Hořovice, a ground built for a few thousand rather than a few hundred — capacity is listed at 2,500 — a size that outstrips the level of football usually played there, and stands as the clearest sign of what the club still hopes to grow back into.
