Maldon & Tiptree

He arrived in February 2025 with Barrie and Scott Drewitt-Barlow's money behind him, and with it came Freddie Sears, Gary Hooper and Matthew Briggs — the kind of names a club two divisions below the National League does not usually sign. Fourteen months later the owners were arrested and charged with human trafficking, rape and sexual assault, and by September 2026 the club had passed to new hands. What survived the wreckage was the football: Maldon & Tiptree won the Isthmian League North Division in 2025–26.

The club that inherited that mess was itself an inheritance. It began in August 1946 as Maldon Town, run out of the Maldon Social and Athletic Club, and stayed Maldon Town for sixty-three years. In September 2009 Tiptree United's chairman, Ed Garty, took control, and the following April the two identities merged into one: Maldon & Tiptree, playing in red and blue stripes to honour both sides, and keeping Maldon Town's place in the league pyramid. Tiptree United withdrew from the Essex Senior League to let it happen.

Its best-remembered run came before the merger, in the 2019–20 FA Cup, when Maldon & Tiptree beat League Two's Leyton Orient in the First Round before Newport County ended things in the Second.

The ground has changed names faster than the club has changed owners: the old Wallace Binder Ground became the Drewitt-Barlow Stadium in 2025, and after the arrests it was renamed again, in June 2026, to The Maldon Stadium — 2,800 capacity, 155 of them seated.
