Metallurg Asha

Alexander Antonov has worn the captain's armband through most of Metallurg Asha's climb from a Chelyabinsk Oblast side to a fixture of the Ural and Western Siberia zone.

The plant that gave the club its name still backs it: Asha Metallurgical Plant sponsors the side that carries its trade in white and red.

Recognition beyond the region came later and had to be earned twice over. Metallurg won the Russian Third Division's Ural and Western Siberia zone eight times between 2012 and 2023, and turned two of those seasons, 2014 and 2017, into the Russian Amateur Football League's national final tournament title. The zone cup and Super Cup filled in behind those campaigns almost every year in between, against opponents like Nosta Novotroitsk and Chelyabinsk, the two clubs Asha's supporters have learned to measure themselves against.

None of it runs through a stadium built for the occasion. The ground has held three thousand people since 1958, well before the plant's team gave it a reason to fill up, and the club still answers to its followers through a VKontakte page rather than a website of its own.
