Paulton sits in Somerset. Into that stillness came a team in 1881, Paulton Rovers . They arrived to play. The club wears maroon and white, colours settled since the Second World War, replacing an older blue and white kit that belonged to a different era.
The ground, The Athletic Stadium on Winterfield Road, holds 2,500 spectators. Twelve Somerset Senior Cups sit in the cabinet. The club joined the Western Football League in 1900 and climbed to the Southern League Premier Division in 2013–14 after winning the play-offs.
The club’s moment in the sun came in the FA Cup in 2009–10. They hosted Norwich City in the First Round Proper, a match televised live on ITV1. It was a rare glimpse of something larger. The club has also produced players who moved on. Ashley Barnes played for Paulton as a teenager before joining Burnley and Southampton.
The most faithful memory belongs to Don Rogers. He played for Rovers before representing Swindon Town in the 1969 Football League Cup final.
