Levi Colwill's name is the one Sholing supporters reach for when the conversation turns to what the club has produced, and it comes with a family thread attached: his uncles Barry, Byron and Dan Mason all wore the shirt for years before him. The club that gave him his start began in 1960, went through spells as Thornycrofts and later Vosper Thornycroft, and only took the name Sholing in 2010.

The shipyard past has not been shaken off entirely. The nickname, the Boatmen, still points back to Woolston's shipbuilding trade.

Nothing in the club's history carries the weight of a single afternoon at Wembley. In May 2014, Sholing beat West Auckland Town 1–0 in the FA Vase final. The same season they also took the Wessex League Premier Division. The Southampton Senior Cup has been won often enough, that it reads less as a landmark and more as a habit.
