Vyšehrad went up to the Czech National Football League, the country's third tier — the highest the club from Prague's Nusle district had reached in its history. In 2022 the Football Association of the Czech Republic's Ethics Commission found the club's sport manager, Roman Rogoz, entangled with referee Roman Berbr in a corruption case, and excluded Vyšehrad from the league altogether.

The stadium tells a similar story of rise and fall.

Petr Kouba, who won silver with the Czech Republic at Euro 1996, came through Vyšehrad, as did Zdeněk Hruška, who went to the 1982 World Cup with Czechoslovakia. Locally, the rivalry that matters is with FK Meteor Praha, played out as the Vyšehrad–Meteor derby.

None of this is what brought the club its widest recognition.
