Springfield FC no longer exists in Springfield. In 2024 the club moved to Staten Island, New York, and continued as Staten Island Athletic SC. It was set up in 2021 and played its first season in USL League Two in 2022, as Springfield Athletic Soccer Club.
The identity most people in Springfield would recognise arrived late. In February 2023 the club became Springfield FC, took the nickname the Monarchs and put a monarch butterfly on the crest. The move to Staten Island followed the year after.
Home games were played at Sacred Heart Griffin Stadium, which holds 6,600.
Springfield had no formal derby. The nearest thing to a local fixture was Peoria City SC, another Illinois club on the I-74 corridor, and the geography gave those matches their weight. Springfield won no major honours in USL League Two.
