Football in Tășnad did not start in 2008. The town had fielded a team under the Unirea name as far back as 1974, and again as Chimia Tășnad in 1981, both times good enough to win the Satu Mare county title. When the current club took shape in 2008, it registered as a new entity with the Romanian Football Federation, but it kept the old name.
Tășnad went 36 years without another county championship before winning Liga IV Satu Mare in 2016–17. Cristian Popa has been the man in the dugout through the club's recent matches.
Stadionul Unirea, on Strada Trandafirilor, holds around 700 people. The club's crest carries an unusual mix of red, teal, yellow and purple.
Promotion to Liga III has also brought Tășnad into contact with clubs well outside Satu Mare County, among them Crișul Sântandrei, met in the 2025–26 Cupa României.
