Verspah Ōita

Two workplaces stood behind the first team: the metal parts manufacturer Hoyo Seiko and the staffing agency Soitax Japan. Employees of both formed a side in 2003 and called it Hoyo FC. It became Hoyo Atletico Elan in 2005, was reworked twice more around 2010 and 2011, and became Hoyo Oita in 2013. In December of that year it became Verspah Oita: "vermelho" is Portuguese for red, "spa" points to the hot springs around Beppu, and the H is what remains of Hoyo.

The climb began in the lowest tier of Oita prefectural football. The club won the Third Division in 2005 and the Second in 2006. The First Division followed in 2009, and the Kyushu League in 2010 and 2011. The Japan Football League title came in 2020, in a season the COVID-19 pandemic cut short. Verspah Oita were top of the table when play was abandoned, and the title went to them on that standing.

The cup has given them a different kind of attention. They reached the fourth round of the Emperor's Cup in 2020 and the last 16 in 2021. In 2023 they beat Oita Trinita 1-0. Trinita are the J.League side from the same prefecture, and the two clubs have no formal derby. The name "V-Oita" is used mostly by the media, to tell the two apart.

Mu Kanazaki, a former Japan international, joined in 2024. Kenta Hori, Kazuho Yamasaki, Takaki Fukumitsu and Kosei Uryu also arrived with J.League experience. Verspah Oita now play in the Japan Football League, at Oita Sports Park Field A, a ground that holds about 5,000.
