Wellen

On 1 July 1998, two clubs from the same small Limburg town became one. Königlich Wellense Sportkring, the older side, joined Wellen Voetbal Vereniging, which had been founded in 1970. The merged club took the name KVK Wellen and kept matricule 2825, the older club's registration number with the Belgian football association. The younger club's number, 8281, was retired.

The older half had already changed once. It began in 1934 as Eendracht Football Club Wellen and was renamed Wellense SK in 1961, after another local club, Sparta Wellen, stopped playing. It received the title "Royal" in 1991, seven years before the merger.

The club's honours are provincial. It won the Eerste Provinciale Limburg in 1985 as Wellense SK, then in 2002 and 2014 as KVK. Each title carried promotion to the national Fourth Division, later renamed the Third Amateur Division. In 2024 the club went up again, into the Tweede Afdeling, the Second Amateur Division.

Wellen is a place that supplies players more than it buys them. The youth academy has a name in the area, and some of its former players went on to professional football. Kris Vincken, who won the Belgian League Cup with Lommel in 1998, played for Wellen from 2009 to 2013. Dylan Vanwelkenhuysen, later of Sint-Truiden, spent the 2018–19 season at the club.

The fixtures that count most are local. Zepperen-Brustem and Tongeren are the other rivals.

Home games are at Stadion de Zavel on Houtstraat, a ground for about 1,500 spectators.
