Abbasiyyin Stadium

Abbasiyyin Stadium. There is no grass on the field now; the ground is bare earth where a military training camp was set up when the stadium closed. A water tower in the distance looks down on the empty seats. The only movement is in the bushes growing along the perimeter wall. This is not a place for tourists or casual fans. It is a reminder of when the national team played here in the 1990s, before the city changed forever. Today, you can stand outside and look in, but you cannot get past the gate. The stadium is a ghost of its former self, sitting quietly in the middle of the city while everything else moves on.
