Alsancak Mustafa Denizli Stadı

The yellow concrete seats of Alsancak Mustafa Denizli Stadı sit under a bright sky that is almost always clear in Izmir. The stadium stands in the Konak district, close to the sea, and it is the place where Altay SK have played for half a century. The new version of the ground opened in 2021 after the old one was taken down for being unsafe.

What you see when you walk through the gate is a set of stands that run around the pitch, yellow and grey, with a row of palm trees growing outside on the pavement. Inside, the pitch is covered in hybrid grass, which is a mix of natural fibres and artificial ones, making it work better in the hot weather.

The club has kept its history close. The stadium has ten luxury boxes and offices for the European game, though the main thing is that it feels like a local place. The capacity is not huge, but the sound carries across the concrete.
