Buzánszky Jenő Stadion

The entrance to the Buzánszky Jenő Stadion in Dorog offers an immediate sense of place. A stone plaque mounted on a pale wall reads not just of a football ground, but of a century of sport in the town.

The stadium itself stands back from the road, a low-profile complex of pale yellow buildings. The surface is natural grass, a requirement for a venue that has been classified as a 'C' category ground since a central certification in 2001. That classification came after the stadium had already seen its capacity reduced from a historical peak of 15,000 spectators in 1963. Today, the official capacity sits closer to 4,000, a figure that has shifted as the Hungarian Football Federation updated its licensing requirements in 2016.

The ground has a history of adaptation. It was originally built by the Dorog coal mining company, funded by the industry that still defines the town. After World War I, construction resumed and completed in 1921, designed by Zoltán Gáthy. Renovations have been frequent, including a major project in the 1970s and a recent overhaul funded by a government grant in 2021. That work included pitch heating and an LED screen, but the core of the venue remains its original character. It is the only stadium in Dorog, a place where the boundary between the town and the pitch is thin, and where the industrial past is still visible in the stone and the steel.
