Central Ground

The main stand at Central Ground arrived in 1956, bought from Manchester City and moved across the country to sit on Coles Lane. That purchase placed a piece of the larger game in a town that had its own footballers.

Before that, the pitch was natural, and before that, the club played at Meadow Plat and then returned to Coles Lane when the old ground was lost. The surface changed, but the club, founded in 1879 as Sutton Town and renamed Sutton Coldfield Town in 1964, stayed put.

The stands hold 2,000 people. In 2022, the pitch and outdoor facilities were renovated again, this time as part of Birmingham’s preparations for the Commonwealth Games, and athletes used the ground for training alongside the local clubs.

The venue has hosted Romulus FC and Paget Rangers, who groundshared there from 1993 to 1998 and later again from the 2018–19 season. West Bromwich Albion Women’s matches were played here too, and the 2010–11 Birmingham Senior Cup Final arrived in May 2011, when Sutton Coldfield Town beat Nuneaton Town 1–0.
