Craik Park

It stands sentinel over a site that has served two very different purposes, a relic of the 1972 athletics origins before Morpeth Town A.F.C. transformed the grounds for football in 1994. The club, known as The Highwaymen, moved from Storey Park. They named it Craik Park to honour W. and R. Craik, who had served as secretaries between 1920 and 1985.

What is visible today is a practical, working football ground. The pitch is covered by a synthetic surface, laid down in 2021 to accommodate the club’s twenty-nine junior sides. The old wooden fence has been replaced by a high perimeter screen. The capacity is often cited as 2,100.

The ground has a history that stretches back further than the current football setup. On January 11, 1958, it held a crowd of 20,010 for an FA Cup replay against Newcastle United. That match ended in a 2–0 victory for the visitors. In more recent times, the stadium hosted the second leg of the FA Vase semi-final in 2016, where Morpeth Town defeated Bowers & Pitsea to reach Wembley. It has also played host to a drive-in magic show and a screening of the 2025 Carabao Cup Final, proving that the space adapts to its community.
