The ground sits in the town of Calulo, a settlement that serves as the administrative centre for the Libolo Municipality. It is an unassuming facility in the Cuanza Sul Province, yet it carries the weight of local history through its various identities. The stadium was not built in 2008; that was simply the date of a renovation. The pitch itself dates back to the colonial era, when it was known as Campo de Calulo.
After independence in 1975, the venue was renamed Estádio Patrice Lumumba. That title lasted until 1978, when the current name, Estádio Municipal de Calulo, was adopted. The structure is modest, holding 5,000 spectators on natural grass, a capacity confirmed by several football databases, though some records suggest it could accommodate up to 10,000. The lower figure is the one generally cited in official contexts.
It is the home of C.R.D. Libolo, a club formed from the merger of Palmeiras FC, Cambuco FC, and Fortaleza FC. While the club is officially based in Libolo, its roots remain in Calulo. The stadium primarily hosts domestic league matches in the Girabola and cup ties in the Taça de Angola. It has not been used for major national finals or large-scale concerts.
