Estádio Sagrada Esperança

The old pitch was dirt, and then it was not. That change happened before the name changed. The ground sits in the Kamakenzo neighbourhood, which is also called Ngacumona, and it belongs to Grupo Desportivo Sagrada Esperança. Before the stadium became Estádio Sagrada Esperança, the locals knew it as Quintalão do Dundo. The shift away from the earth surface came with a rehabilitation in 2003.

The renovation added more than seats. It brought a gym, changing rooms, and a VIP stand for 235 people. Four lighting towers with twelve spots each were raised around the perimeter, and a parking lot for 100 cars was laid out. Endiama built a hotel nearby in 2009. The capacity sits at 8,000, a number that has been stable since the rebuild.

The ground is not just a place for Girabola matches. It has hosted international fixtures, including a CAF Champions League preliminary round tie against FC Platinum of Zimbabwe in September 2021. The pitch is natural, and it has seen its share of trouble. A pitch invasion against Petro de Luanda in April 2023 ended with a fine of 2.2 million kwanzas and a sanction to play behind closed doors.

There is no record of the highest attendance at a match, nor is there a clear date for when the original structure first opened its doors. The focus remains on what is present: the lights, the seats, and the club that calls it home. The incident went to review, but the ground remains.
