Gelvandale Stadium opened in March 2010. The capacity is 3,000. The surface is natural grass.
What makes the ground different is who plays there. It is not a fortress for a single giant club, but a shared space for several. Bay United F.C. used the pitch from 2010 to 2011 before moving on. Blackburn Rovers, a club based in East London, still uses the venue part-time for their National First Division matches. Highbury, a local Port Elizabeth outfit, also holds their home matches on this strip of turf. Currently, the ground serves as a community sports ground for Swallows, a local amateur football club.
The stadium has not undergone any name changes. It has consistently been known as Gelvandale Stadium. It is a functional piece of infrastructure.
