Grigoris Afxentiou Stadium

The Grigoris Afxentiou Stadium in Larnaca carries the name of a local hero. The original venue in the village of Lysi was a pioneer, one of the first in Cyprus to feature floodlights and a grass pitch. Those summer tournaments brought teams from across Europe, but that old stadium has been abandoned since the occupation of Lysi.

The current structure in Larnaca opened in 1984, built to house the displaced club ASIL Lysi. Its capacity is a matter of some debate. While the club’s own site suggests 2,000 seats, other sources point to 4,000. The playing surface remains natural grass, a continuity of sorts from the old ground.

For decades, this was the home of ASIL Lysi. They played here from 1984 until 2019. The club even shared the pitch with Alki Larnaca for a time, though Alki’s main stage was the New GSZ Stadium. Now the situation has changed. Since the 2020–21 season, ASIL Lysi has moved their home matches to the GSZ Stadium in Larnaca. The Grigoris Afxentiou Stadium is no longer the active primary home of its main tenant.

It does not host major cup finals or international matches. It is a quiet place now, used for local league football. The managing club maintains a website at asillysis.com, but there is no dedicated site for the stadium itself.
