MEMS Priestfield Stadium

MEMS Priestfield Stadium sits at the end of Redfern Avenue in Gillingham, Kent. It opened in 1893 as the Athletic Ground, when the club that is now Gillingham FC was still called New Brompton. The current shape dates from the redevelopment work between 1997 and 2003, which saw the capacity fall from nearly 20,000 to the present 11,582. The Stanley Stand, built in 1955, remains one of the few surviving pieces of the older structure. The playing surface is natural grass without undersoil heating. The highest attendance recorded was 23,002 for an FA Cup match against Queens Park Rangers in 1948. The ground has hosted rugby league matches for the London Broncos and various women's and youth international fixtures, but it remains primarily the home of Gillingham.
