The ground in Phnom Penh sits quietly until you see it from above. It is not a new build and it is not a relic — it is the same pitch and the same stands, just dressed up again. The renovation finished in 2023. Natural grass is the surface underfoot now. The stadium does not carry a former name; it has always been the National Olympic Stadium, though the exact year of its first construction is not firmly established in the public record. The building stands apart from other Olympic venues because it serves a different purpose. It is a functional arena for the Cambodian football calendar.

When the team turned to the kids in the academy, they played on this same surface. The renovation paid for a sloppy opening by tightening the pitch edges, and the players ran riot across the new turf. The stadium remains the only major venue in the capital, so it does not compete with other grounds for the same matches. It hosts the fixtures it is given and lets the game flow.
