The old Parkstadion never quite disappeared. When the big stadium went up in 2001, the demolition crew took most of it. What remained was one stand and a floodlight mast. Then in July 2020, FC Schalke 04 decided to turn it into something again.

The renovation was straightforward, which is why it worked. The opposite stand from the original structure was restored . The pitch was laid down as natural grass.

These are youth and reserve teams now: Schalke U23, Schalke U19, and Schalke II. The first match in this configuration came on August 15, 2020, against SC Verl. That match ended 6–6 after extra time and remains the official attendance record for the original ground.

The new incarnation does not try to replicate anything. It is a working ground for developing players, sitting a short distance from the Veltins Arena where the first team plays.
