The last home of Rosarie Gicanda, the last Queen of Rwanda (The wife of Rwandan King Mutara III Rudahigwa), is located in Huye district, Ngoma Sector in Southern Province of Rwanda in face of Huye International Stadium along the highway – just one kilometer to the ethnographic museum of Huye (Now th Claude Nizeyimana · CC BY-SA 4.0

It is a modest ground, built for the district rather than the nation.

The stadium was finished in 2020, a project contracted to the China Road and Bridge Corporation Limited (CRBC) as part of a government drive to move sports infrastructure away from the capital, Kigali. While earlier reports suggested a capacity of 3,000, the working figure is 1,000, reflecting the simple layout of the concrete steps. It serves as the home ground for Etoile de l'Est FC , a club in the Rwanda Premier League. The venue also hosts volleyball matches, with the national league having staged games there in 2015 and 2016, long before the football club arrived. The earliest recorded football matches took place in August 2022 during the 2022/2023 season.
