Perak Stadium

The stadium stands in the Kampung Simee district, part of the larger sports complex that gives it its official address, though locals simply call it Perak Stadium.

The site carries a weight of history that most modern arenas in the region have shed. It began life not as a venue for sport, but as a detention camp for communists during the Malayan Emergency. Since then, it has grown into the largest stadium in Peninsular Malaysia's northern region.

The pitch is natural grass, currently a variety of Zeon Zoysia, though plans are in motion to switch to Bermuda Tifgrass for the coming season.

It has hosted the final of the Malaysia FA Cup twice, in 1997 and 2003, matches that brought teams like Selangor and Negeri Sembilan to the north. The capacity sits at 42,500, though the ground rarely fills to the brim, with crowds of around 32,000 being the norm for regular league matches.

The stadium was expanded significantly for the 1997 FIFA U-20 World Cup, even though it did not host any matches for that tournament. The name has never changed. It has always been Perak Stadium, a simple title that reflects its role as the home of the revived Perak FA state football team.
