Stadion Rankhof does not attempt to be a grand arena. It sits in the Rankhof district of Basel. The current building opened in 1995, a legacy of the reconstruction rather than the original wooden terraces built by members of FC Nordstern Basel in 1923. Those early stands were eventually deemed unsafe. It is not a place that has played host to major finals or significant international events, but it is a working ground for local football, hosting FC Nordstern
