Stadionul Știința
Timișoara, Romania
Formerly: Arena Politehnica, Politehnica Stadium
The stadium sits on the university campus, but the athletics track is the first thing that catches the eye.
It was opened in 1928, a long time ago, and has lived through several eras of Romanian football. One of the most notable moments occurred in 1973, when over fifty thousand spectators attended a promotion match against FC Bihor Oradea.
The pitch is natural grass, a standard requirement for professional matches. An electronic scoreboard hangs above one of the stands, and floodlights ensure visibility when the weather turns. The ground hosts the women's team Poli Timișoara alongside the main squad.
In 1958, the attendance record of 24,000 was set during a European Cup Winners' Cup match against SK Slavia Prague. That crowd was far larger than the current maximum, a reminder of how the game has moved away from these smaller grounds. The planned modernization project approved in 2020 aims to increase the capacity to 3,000, but that work has not yet been completed.
The university owns the facility, and two mini-football pitches with synthetic surfaces were added to the roof during the 2024-2027 renovation phase.
