The Scholars Ground

The Scholars Ground sits at the edge of Burntwood, tucked away on Church Street in Chasetown. What makes this place stand out is not its scale, but the way it has changed. The pitch is now covered in artificial 3G turf, laid down in 2023 after years of natural grass. Chasetown F.C. calls this place home, having moved here in 1983 from Burntwood Recreation Centre. The club's nickname, "The Scholars," comes from its past as the Chase Terrace Old Scholars Youth Club, founded in 1954. The ground has seen bigger crowds than you might expect for a non-league venue. In January 2008, 2,420 people turned up for an FA Cup Third Round match against Cardiff City. That was when Chasetown became the lowest-ranked club ever to reach that stage of the competition, after beating Port Vale 1–0 in a Second Round replay. More recently, on 1 January 2025, 2,706 spectators watched a Northern Premier League Division One Midlands game against Hednesford Town. Chasetown lost 0–3 that day, but the record stood for years until then. The club also hosted the Walsall Senior Cup final in May 2025 when their usual venue fell through.

The Scholars Ground has come a long way since those early days.
