Ushirika Stadium

Ushirika Stadium sits on the Moshi Co-operative University campus. The ground does not pretend to be a cathedral of sport; it is a functional rectangle of natural grass tucked behind academic blocks on Sokoine Road. Captain of Polisi Tanzania FC knows the surface well, though the pitch has seen its share of mud and regulatory headaches.

On matchdays, the boundary lines blur. The capacity is disputed—some counts say 10,000, others claim 3,000—but the space feels cramped regardless of the number. A gospel crusade once drew tens of thousands here, turning the pitch into a sea of white robes and shouting voices. That was not a football match, but the energy was identical.

The stadium opened in 1989, when the town was quieter and the university still went by its older name. The word Ushirika means cooperation, a fitting title for a venue that shares its space with students, runners, and preachers alike. Until then, the players practise on this patch of earth, knowing that the wind from the mountain can make a long pass unpredictable.
