The ground in Vardarac stands as a quiet exception in Croatian football. It sits in one of the smallest settlements to host a match of this level, nestled in the Bilje municipality of Osijek-Baranja County. The pitch is natural grass. That is the extent of the architecture.

What makes this place different is the scale of ambition. A stadium in a hamlet, built to meet UEFA B license standards, complete with a VAR room and floodlights. The facility replaced an old, unpaved field that flooded every spring. It opened in August 2025, a project co-financed equally by the governments of Croatia and Hungary, a detail that drew more attention than the football itself.

The capacity is the subject of some debate. Local reports suggest roughly five hundred covered seats, which matches the population of the village. Europlan lists the figure as two thousand. In practice, the match against HNK Hajduk Split in the Croatian Football Cup Round of 16 in September 2026 was reported as sold out. TV crews arrived from across the country to cover a match in a place most fans had not heard of until that day.

It is not a landmark. It is a local pitch that suddenly became a national story. The club, NK Vardarac, founded in 1952, plays in the Third League – East. The ground is clean, modern, and very new. There is no history here yet, only the future of a small club that has finally got a proper home.
